Another Country Movie Club: Nashville
CCA 4 Tuesday 22 March 7pm (doors 6.30pm)
Free Event
BBC Radio Scotland’s “virtual country music film club” comes to life when Another Country presenter Ricky Ross drops in to the CCA to introduce Robert Altman’s Nashville.
Last year Ricky invited listeners to synchronise watches, put their feet up and watch some of the best country music films in living rooms up and down the land before conducting a discussion via text and blogs. Now, through the miracle of biology, people can actually gather in one place and watch a film together and then talk about it face to face. Interesting idea, right?
Nashville (1975) is arguably Altman’s masterpiece, a sprawling, complex study of the characters and lives that inhabit the world of country music. Starring David Arkin, Lily Tomlin, Ned Beatty among many others and underpinned throughout with wonderful songs, many written by the actors themselves, the film interweaves politics, the search for stardom and the realities of people’s lives. Classic Altman mosaic filmmaking, classic country music.
Supported by UWS School of Creative and Cultural Industries the Another Country Movie Club is an occasional gathering place to love, discover, rediscover and discuss country music films.
